Tanning Tips
The following tanning tips are simply a few words of advice from your friendly Maquillage Pro Beauty Airbrush Tanning Technicians. As we have been at our craft for several years now, we know what kinds of issues may arise during the synthetic tanning process.
For further information, please also visit our FAQ page.
Tanning Tip #1
No one knows your skin like you do. While your airbrush tanning technician will do her best to give you an even and natural-looking tan, your skin will not be exactly the same as anyone elses. So if you know that you have dry or callused areas on your skin, please point them out to your technician so that she can make the appropriate adjustments.
Tanning Tip #2
Evaluate your first few tans carefully, particularly after they have set. Especially note your knees, feet, elbows, and other areas with joints and creases. If you see places that you would prefer to be darker or lighter during your next tan, please let your technician know so that she can help you to have the most natural and even tan possible.
Tanning Tip #3
Every person's skin is unique, and no two people will tan in the same way. It may take a few times of trial and error before you find the level of darkness that you prefer. Your airbrush tanning technician can advise you, especially after you have had at least one appointment, so that you can achieve the right shade for you.
Tanning Tip #4
Notice how your tan fades. Fading is more even for some people than for others. If you find that you have areas of patchiness as your tan wears off, it may be an indication that you should exfoliate more thoroughly before your next airbrush tan and moisturize your skin more often throughout its lifetime.
Tanning Tip #5
Be aware of what you are wearing when you tan. If you wear a bathing suit, make sure that you tuck in the loose ties or tags as these can rub wet areas of freshly applied tan and cause streaking.
Tanning Tip #6
If during your airbrush tan you accidentally touch the freshly applied wet tan with your hands, knuckles, or fingers, please let your technician know so that she can hand you a moist wipe. Leaving the solution on your hands (even if you can't see it) will cause your skin to tan in places where it should not be tan.
Tanning Tip #7
At the end of the tanning session, your technician will allow you to dry off for a few minutes before you get dressed. You will know that your tan is set and dry when you no longer see any shiny dark spots on your skin. Wet solution on your skin will appear darker that the surrounding area and will reflect light. To prevent streaking, you should not touch those spots until they are fully dried.
Tanning Tip #8
If you notice that a certain small spot is taking an unusually long time to dry, let your technician know, and she can simply wipe the spot clean and respray it with a thin layer of solution to expedite the process.
Tanning Tip #9
After your airbrush tanning appointment, while you are still wearing the solution, you may see some tan rub off onto clothing, towels, bed sheets, etc. Do not be concerned. Simply launder these items and the solution will wash out. In addition, the fact that you can see a bit of tan come off does not mean that your skin will not tan in that spot. The chemical is still on your skin, and you will still tan as long as you have not gotten your skin wet before the solution has fully set. (This is also why we will hand you a moist wipe if you have touched the solution with your hands. See Tanning Tip #6.)
Tanning Tip #10
Though you should exfoliate your skin prior to an airbrush tan, it is best to do so several hours before your appointment time (up to 24 hours in advance should be sufficient). Showering too close to your appointment time can mean that you arrive for your tan with overly moist skin. Having too much moisture in your skin at the time of your tanning appointment can prevent the tanning solution from penetrating your skin and may not allow your tan to last as long or to be as dark.
